Spider-Man: Homecoming director gives insight on that new Vulture costume

This past weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, we got the reveal of Vulture in some footage shown exclusively to attendees and a piece of concept art released online. The suit is a big turn away from the traditional green feathered suit and goes for a more "realistic" and modern look. This has raised questions among fans and even given some rumors more credibility.

Collider caught up with director Jon Watts and asked him about what were some of the reasons behind the new suit. "It's a very tech-based approach to how the Vulture would build a wing-suit and how he would fly", Watts told Collider. "It's not just cool design, it's a big part of the story. From the very beginning we wanted to try and keep it tech-based, just to keep it different from what we'd seen before in and getting away from anything that was too similar to [the past], and it sets up a really cool thing that I don't want to talk about yet! It's gonna be awesome." The wall-crawler himself, Tom Holland added "the suit allows us to incorporate much more physical presence from the Vulture, and he's a really formidable villain".

There has been a rumor floating around that the Vulture suit is built from Chitauri technology left over after the invasion of New York in The Avengers, and if the suit's origins are as big of a part of the story as Watts mentions then it's entirely possible this rumor could be true.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will hit theaters on July 7th, 2017 and will star Tom Holland, Zendaya, Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr., and many other Hollywood names.
