Spider-Man's Marvel Cinematic Universe debut was incredibly well received on all fronts with fans and critics supporting it with rave reviews and making it one of the highest grossing films of 2017. Fans have been craving a Spider-Man movie set in the world of the MCU and after Marvel finally worked out a deal with Sony, it happened and fans are clamoring for more.
Despite the first film only releasing about 5 months ago, Marvel and Sony aren't wasting any time on getting the ball rolling for a sequel. The sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming is scheduled for a July 2019 release date and we now know that the movie is set to begin filming around June 2018.
Marvel's Kevin Feige also confirmed this weekend that Homecoming director Jon Watts will return to helm the follow-up which will presumably see Peter Parker dealing with the aftermath of Avengers: Infinity War and the untitled fourth Avengers film. Spider-Man will have a prominent role in Infinity War but it hasn't been confirmed on how much of a presence he'll have in Avengers 4.
No plot details have been revealed for the Spider-Man sequel but we can likely expect to hear more about it at Comic-Con this summer, after the release of Infinity War. No villains have been confirmed either but Scorpion was strongly hinted to appear in a future Spider-Man film at the end of Homecoming. The Tinkerer is also still out there somewhere but we're not sure what tech and toys he made off with when leaving The Vulture's hideout.
The untitled Spider-Man sequel will release on July 5th, 2019.
