Spider-Man: Miles Morales to have 4K 60 FPS mode on PlayStation 5

Glorious 4K/60FPS.

Last week, it was announced that Far Cry 6 would not have 4K capability on PlayStation 5. It will on Xbox but PS5 is out of luck. Luckily, Sony will be using Spider-Man: Miles Morales to demonstrate its true horsepower.

Insomniac Games revealed today that Spider-Man: Miles Morales will feature a mode with 4K resolution and 60 FPS. Of course, if this is a secondary performance mode, it likely comes at some sort of cost. The game will likely run at a standard 30 FPS by default in a higher resolution but maybe not 4K.

Industry tech analyst Richard Leadbetter from Digital Foundry commented on the news via Eurogamer.

“This is a welcome announcement, users will be able to lean more into the CPU horsepower of the PS5 to deliver 60fps, and we’ll be interested to see what graphical trades were required to deliver the performance mode, especially as 4K resolution is suggested here – though lowering precision on ray tracing effects or dropping them altogether is a possibility.”

It’s unclear what will be sacrificed in order to make Spider-Man: Miles Morales run at a higher frame rate/resolution on PlayStation 5. Whatever the case may be, it’ll surely still be beautiful and ensure that swinging through New York City is endlessly thrilling.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales and PlayStation 5 will release this holiday season. Insomniac has already announced that the new Spider-Man title will not be a full-fledged sequel but a smaller spin-off in between the first and inevitable second game.
