Earlier in March, it was revealed that Sony greenlit a movie focusing on the Spider-man villain Venom. Filming for the movie will apparently begin shooting this Fall, according to MyEntertainmentWorld.
The film is set to release in October 2018 and is listed as an "Action/horror/sci-fi", which isn't exactly a genre covered by any other superhero movie.
We don't know the connection between this Venom film and the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming. The un-named Venom film predates the deal Marvel and Sony made to feature Spider-man in Civil War and Ironman in Homecoming, so there may be a chance that it's not related to the MCU at all.
Alex Kurtzman will direct the film, currently at the helm of the reboot of The Mummy and the co-writer of the first two Star Trek reboot movies.
