Splinter Cell movie has a script, story details, and more

They are envisioning a "badass Tom Hardy action movie."

The producer of the Splinter Cell movie (and John Wick: Chapter 2), Basil Iwanyk, has revealed a bit of information on the upcoming Tom Clancy-inspired film. According to Iwanyk, the film's production is moving along pretty well (unlike The Flash).

In an interview with Collider, Iwanyk revealed that the Script is "a little long," but it's done and waiting for approval from Tom Hardy, who will be taking the lead role in the film. As for Hardy, Iwanyk described him as a gamer and someone quite familiar with the Special Ops world.

The moving is aiming to be a "hard PG-13" that won't be "like John Wick, but it's going to be badass."

As for the story and whether the team is looking for a real-world event or not, here's what Iwanyk said:

It’s more of what we’re digging away from. The good and the bad news is that, obviously, the Bond movies have had a resurgence and the Jason Bourne movies are the Jason Bourne movies, so we’re trying to stay away from those movies in terms of tone, in terms of bad guys, in terms of settings. What’s a world that we haven’t seen yet? What’s an area of the world and a conflict that we haven’t really touched upon in movies in a long time, to make it feel fresh?

Hardy "really, really" wants to play Sam Fisher in Splinter Cell, which is pretty exciting… Especially if he has played the series.
