To get ahead of all the E3 craze, THQ Nordic is doing a few pre-E3 reveals. To kick things off, they’ve announced a remake/remaster of one of the most beloved PS2 games out there: Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom.
14 years after the original and several years without a console game, THQ Nordic will bring Spongebob back to gaming in his most glorious outing. The PS2-era platfomer was loved for its fun gameplay, irreverent humor, and also making players feel like they were in the eye-popping and friendly universe of the popular children’s show.
While details are currently scarce as to what exactly is being done to Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom, we can probably expect to learn more at E3 next week. For now, here’s the official description from the YouTube trailer.
“Are you ready, kids? The cult classic is back, faithfully remade in spongetastic splendor! Play as SpongeBob, Patrick and Sandy and show the evil Plankton that crime pays even less than Mr. Krabs. Want to save Bikini Bottom from lots of rampant robots? Of course you do! Want to underpants bungee jump? Why wouldn’t you! Want to join forces in a brand new multiplayer mode? The battle is on!”
Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated has no release date but is currently slated to launch for Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
