Spyro the Dragon remastered trilogy officially coming this September

We are deep into a new era of gaming where the only video game “mascots” that still hold a prominent place in society are Master Chief, Mario, and Sonic. Activision is looking to revive some of their old IP in the form of epic remasters for Crash Bandicoot and now Spyro the Dragon.

Yes, after months of rumors and seemingly years of people begging, Activision has confirmed they’re remastering the first three Spyro the Dragon games for Xbox One and PS4. The trilogy will release this September, a month that is gearing up to be a chaotic time for gamers with Spider-Man, Dragon Quest, Tomb Raider, and many others dropping in just days of each other.

The collection is being dubbed Spyro Reignited Trilogy and will be released on September 21st, 2018 for $39.99. Activision has remade the trilogy “from the ground-up” with “improved environments, updated controls, brand-new lighting and recreated cinematics.” Activision also promises “full analog stick support and smooth camera handling” so this will be a very smooth and modernized version of the classic platformers.

While some were hoping the game would come to Nintendo Switch and PC like Crash Bandicoot is, Activision has only announced the game for Xbox One and PS4. There have been some credible sources suggesting a Switch version will come later and Nintendo even listed the game on their own storefront. Could it be an error? Possibly. If it is coming, it likely won’t hit in September unless Nintendo is saving a reveal for it during a Nintendo Direct in the next few months.

If you’re interested in seeing Spyro’s new look, you can check out the trailer below.

Spyro has been out of the game for quite a while, his last standalone adventure was in 2008 and then Activision used him as the foundation for their toys to life franchise, Skylanders. Could this spawn new Spyro games? It remains to be seen!

Spyro Reignited Trilogy will release on September 21st, 2018.
