Square Enix doesn’t see Tomb Raider ‘becoming an Xbox IP’

Square Enix Americas CEO Phil Rogers has revealed the there will be another installment in the Tomb Raider reboot series and it might not be exclusive to the Xbox One. A third installment in the Tomb Raider series is not a surprise, after all this is the company that said games can only be called a success if they at least two sequels.

Speaking with Gamespot Rogers revealed that exclusivity doesn't come with a series, but is decided per game and that they can't really say that they won't be considering more exclusive Microsoft deals. "We're very much a game-by-game, case-by-case company. I can't rule it out," Rogers said. "But as with any exclusivity, they're really tough decisions."

As for Rise of the Tomb Raider, despite the backlash they think the timed Xbox One exclusivity wasn't a bad choice, in fact, it was the right choice. Oh, and he let it slip that there's one more game on the way:

"We believe first and foremost this is the right thing to do with Tomb Raider right now," Rogers said about their deal with Microsoft. "What it's done for the sake of the studio and the next beat with the Tomb Raider trilogy… But the backlash is–we've watched carefully and we believe it's the right thing to do."

The interest moment is the stammer where Rogers changes direction when he considers the backlash that the decision has brought from the community. Rogers maintained that it was the right choice, but according to rumors, the negative feedback will be driving Square Enix to sell Rise of the Tomb Raider at a lower price when it makes the eventual jump to PS4.

PlayStation 4 and PC players don't need to worry about missing out on the series' remaining titles, Square Enix isn't considering it. "We don't see this [Tomb Raider] over time becoming an Xbox IP. This is a story and we'll look back over the Tomb Raider franchise and history, and it will be a chapter where it was a timed-exclusive with Xbox."

The last part of this statement almost fuels the rumor around the PS4.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is set to release on November 10 on the Xbox One and Xbox 360.
