Square Enix’s Deus Ex-based ‘Human by Design’ documentary is available now

And it's free...

Technology is slowly erasing the traditional norms of what is human and what is not and a documentary by Square Enix called "Human by Design" is asking that question, "What does it mean to be a human?"

In the popular Deus Ex series, the story fixates on the augmentation of the human body, making it better than it is supposed to be. This inevitably causes a whirlwind of conflict in the in-game world. This is also becoming a more and more relevant question for our world today which is why scientists and philosophers have started discussing this very question.

Square Enix and Eidos Montreal teamed up with CNN's Courageous, to make a documentary about what it means to be a human, especially today when prosthetics are getting closer and closer to what used to be science fiction. They took the help of a whole lot of professionals to create (according to user reviews) a pretty good and informative documentary.

They discuss both the technical sides as well as the ethical side of it questioning whether you become less human just because you have a robot arm or use something to enhance your skills, like the augments in Deus Ex.

The documentary was made in association with the Human by Design Conference where they talk about, well, humans and what designing them means. The conference will be held on August 3 in New York and the event will be streamed on Twitch of all places.

Human by Design is about 30 minutes long and those who want to can get their hands on it on Amazon, the next Deus Ex game will be available on August 23.
