Square Enix Cancels Gun Loco

Square Enix has unexpectedly pulled the plug on Gun Loco, a third-person shooter set inside a prison containing manic individuals on an abandoned planet. It was set to bring an “all-new approach to the third-person shooter genre,” but since the Xbox 360 exclusive was unveiled at Gamescom last year, nothing had been heard of it until now.

The studio gave no reason for the cancellation, bar an announcement on their Japanese website. The shooter was scheduled for release this year, and featured single player as well as room for 12 in online multiplayer. Square Enix made a rather big deal out of their “unique” sprint-action gameplay, which probably had ties to it being deemed an all-new approach to the genre.

The game’s style was set to be of a comic nature thanks to artist Kenny Wong’s real-life designs of the characters prior to their implementation into the title. Square Enix even held a competition to find a voice for the game’s title track, so they seemed pretty keen on releasing it.
