Stages, Characters, Soundtrack and Masterpieces detailed for Super Smash Bros. Wii U

During yesterday's Nintendo Direct, we learned about a lot of differentiating facts between the 3DS and Wii U versions of Super Smash Bros. Like the all new Smash Tour mode, or that Mewtwo will be joining the roster of fighters in early 2015.

However, there were a lot more tidbits sprinkled around that make the Wii U version the ultimate definitive version of the game.

First off, over 40 characters will be unlocked from the start, including previously locked characters such as Ness and Ganondorf. However, there will still be characters that require to be unlocked, since players still enjoy the thrill of completing specific challenges to unlock those characters.

There will also be a lot more stages in the Wii U version, as well as updated stages to be much larger than their original counterpart. Palutena's Temple for example will now have an expanded section on the right with additional platforms. The Battlefield stage will also be expanded to allow up to 8 players to smash it out. Some new stages include Pilotwings, Jungle Hijinx, Skyloft, Luigi's Mansion, Pyrosphere and Delfino Plaza, just to name a few.

Masterpieces are making a comeback from Brawl, allowing players to experience the original classics where those characters made their first debut. Like Brawl, each Masterpiece will have a timer, which will allow players to test each game for a limited time, but then will have the option to purchase those games on the Virtual Console.

One of my favorite aspects of Super Smash Bros. games is the soundtrack, and the Wii U version will be much larger compared to the Nintendo 3DS. In fact, it will be about three times bigger. Of course a huge soundtrack requires a large number of composers, which the Wii U soundtrack will have, including the composer behind the most easily recognizable songs like the Super Mario Bros. theme, Koji Kondo.
