Standalone Black Widow movie one step closer to happening

Yeah but, will it get any further than this?

Scarlett Johansson has been talking about making a standalone Black Widow film since she was first cast in the role. There have been plenty of talks of a movie, but no movie.

Now, a writer has attached themselves to the Black Widow project, bringing the project one step closer to becoming a reality.

According to Variety, the Black Widow film is still “very early in development” and has not received a greenlight. Marvel President Kevin Feige allegedly met with several candidates before deciding on Jac Schaeffer as the writer. Schaeffer is an emerging writer, who broke out with her Black List script “The Shower” and “Nasty Women.”

Johansson has been playing the role of Black Widow since 2008, when the character made her debut in Iron Man 2. The actress has appeared as the character in five Marvel films and will return for her sixth time as Black Widow in Avengers: Infinity War.

Joss Whedon, the director behind Avengers, once said that he would return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to direct a Black Widow movie. With the film having a writer working on a script, we will soon learn whether Whedon will make good on previous statements or not.

No release window for the film has been reported.
