Star Citizen reveals procedurally generated planets and seamless space to ground transition

Holiday Livestream reveals some never before seen gameplay

Roberts Space Industries conducted a holiday livestream showing off never before seen gameplay for Star Citizen yesterday. Included in the stream, were two new features; Procedurally generated planets and seamless space to ground transition.

If these sound familiar, they should. Hello Games' No Man's Sky is utlizing this type of set up due to the shear amount of memory required for the game. The planets will appear as you progress based on what the camera angle is displaying at the time. You will also be able to transition directly from your spaceship to the ground and vice versa as well.

After just recently passing the $100 million funding mark, Star Citizen is setting some lofty goals and has entered Alpha 2.0 as well. There are a few packages you can purchase allowing for a number of different missions and locations to be explored on the game's main site. Still no word on official release date yet but with the alpha 2.0 being released, hopefully we'll start hearing about a full launch soon. Take a look at both videos below.
