On February 27, 2015 it was announced that Leonard Nimoy had died at 83-years old due to end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Nimoy is best known for his role as Spock in Star Trek. After his death Nimoy's son Adam launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund a documentary for his father, titled "For the Love of Spock."
The cast and crew of Star Trek: Beyond, the upcoming film directed by Roberto Orci and Justin Lin and starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Idris Elba, John Cho, Zoe Saldana and more, have not forgotten about Nimoy and everything he did that defined his role in the series.
The cast is paying tribute to Nimoy through a sweepstakes to benefit Nimoy’s favorite charity. Star Trek fans can donate a $10 that counts as an entry fee for the chance to be in Star Trek: Beyond. The proceeds from entrants will go to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, which was the Nimoy's favorite charitable organization.
