After numerous delays, Star Trek: Discovery finally brings the franchise back to network television (kind of) for the first time since Enterprise ended in 2005. The first episode will premiere later today on CBS following 60 minutes and will stream exclusively on CBS All Access in the US (it will be on Netflix elsewhere). In an effort to promote the show, a replica of the USS Discovery was dangled from a helicopter and flown over the Hudson River.

At the very least, it's a creative bit of advertising.
Star Trek: Discovery stars Sonequa Martin-Green (The Walking Dead), Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), James Frain (True Blood), Anthony Rapp (Dazed & Confused), and Doug Jones (Hellboy). The show takes place ten years before Captain Kirk's escapades in The Original Series, potentially laying the groundwork for some obligatory references.
At this point, it's hard to know what time exactly Star Trek: Discovery will premiere since it is NFL Sunday, and games have a tendency to run over slot. Regardless, we hope that Discovery can be a successful re-introduction for the traditional Star Trek series that has been so sorely missed for the last decade.
