Star Trek Online: Delta Rising reunites players with Voyager and the Delta Quadrant

Sorry, no steamy Chakotay or Tom Paris scenes

I wouldn't consider myself a Trekkie, but I enjoy Star Trek. My favorite of the Star Trek television series is Star Trek Voyager. I was just drawn to the concept of a single Starfleet ship being alone in an unexplored quadrant, and their journey home would take 75 years — if they survived at all!

So the announcement from Cryptic Studios and Perfect World Entertainment that the second expansion of Star Trek Online builds on the story of Star Trek Voyager is very exciting.

Star Trek Online: Delta Rising will be free to players, bringing new gameplay mechanics and an expansive, hand-crafted storyline to the game.

Star Trek Online: Delta Rising is set 32 years after the events of Star Trek Voyager. Through an ancient Iconian gateway, the Delta Quadrant is easily accessible. Members of the Voyager cast are also reintroduced, including Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine), Robert Picardo (The Doctor), Garrett Wang (Harry Kim), Ethan Phillips (Neelix) and Tim Russ (Tuvok). They're all featured in the trailer below, as well.

Delta Rising increases the player level cap to 60, which is the first cap increase in four years. There's a new tier of ships, gear and officers. And there's also familiar species in the Talaxians, Ocampans, Kazon, and Vaadwaur.

Now I'm just waiting for a Neelix Diner Dash game.
