Update 4/25/13 4:22pm ET: A representative from Star Trek and Paramount has confirmed that Steam is working on a fix and that the problem is on their side. A fix could come at any minute now. Full details HERE: http://gzdev.wpengine.com/news/2013/04/25/steam-working-on-fix-for-star-trek-on-pc-could-take-a-few-minutes-to-an-hour
Star Trek released yesterday on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The game puts you in the shoes of either Kirk or Spock, with drop-in/drop-out multiplayer. Unfortunately, it doesn't work. For PC users, the multiplayer is completely broken, with players unable to join anyone else's game.
I'm pretty sure that's not the case with Xbox 360 and PlayStation owners. And it's definitely not a problem with Steam's servers because other games work just fine. It's just Star Trek. This wouldn't be a problem if the game had competent AI to control the character you're not using, but that isn't the case.
The problem is that when you try to join a friends game via invite — or even just through matchmaking — you get a "game no longer available" message. The official Twitter account for Star Trek is downplaying the issue.
It's not a fraction of PC users. It's all PC users. There's no accountability taking place on behalf of the PR. Just admit that there's a problem and that you're working on it to get it fixed ASAP. Don't lie to the people buying your game.
I'll have a review coming soon; I'm waiting on multiplayer to be functional before I finish it up.
