Disney shocked the world last night when the company announced they were purchasing Lucasfilm for $4 billion dollars. News that Star Wars Episode 7 would be made, with plans release a new film every two to three years, dominated the headlines. While that seemed to be the big headline, many seem to forget that this acquisition could affect many other aspects of Lucasfilm.
For instance, what does this mean for LucasArts' internal development studios currently working on Star Wars 1313? According to LucasArts, nothing has changed, yet.
"For the time being all projects are business as usual," LucasArts told IGN. "We are excited about all the possibilities that Disney brings."
Star Wars 1313 left a lasting impression on many when it was officially unveiled at E3 2012. The new "mature" take on Star Wars coupled with intense gameplay and stunning graphics leaves plenty to be excited about, so it would be a travesty if this acquisition somehow negatively affects the development of the game.
In its press release, Disney did mention that the company's acquisition of Lucasfilm does "create extensive opportunities for Disney to deliver the content across its diverse portfolio of businesses including movies, television, consumer products, games and theme parks."
Star Wars 1313 still has no release date and its platforms still haven't been announced, leaving some to speculate that it could be released on next-gen consoles.
