Star Wars: Battlefront 2’s post-loot box controversy progression system reveal coming

EA and DICE have officially noted when they plan on revealing Star Wars: Battlefront 2’s new progression system to fans. The announcement came nestled in an overview of coming DLC.

A ‘revamped’ progression system will be revealed March for Star Wars Battlefront 2 that will address ‘many of the things’ that players have been ‘asking for.’ This comes after Star Wars: Battlefront 2 saw increased sales during the holidays.

Further details on the coming progression system have not been revealed.

Star Wars: Battlefront 2‘s November 2017 release was marked with a ton of controversy over locked content and the game’s progression system being tied to microtransactions. The backlash was so fierce that EA decided to cut the cost of heroes in Star Wars: Battlefront 2 by 75%, as well as cut the campaign credit payout by 75%. In addition to that, microtransactions were temporarily removed from the game.

It was rumored that EA was considering two methods of reintroducing microtransactions to the game, though, one executive suggested that microtransactions might not return. As for whether or not the purchases were as predatory as fans believed, the ESRB and PEGI associations agreed that the implementation was not gambling, while the gambling commissions in Belgium and UK said otherwise.

Overall, the situation with Star Wars: Battlefront 2 has created a sense of distrust in the gaming community, as well as a renewed focus on loot box implementation in games. Unfortunately, loot boxes are more than likely here to stay, whether it’s in an obvious implementation or not.
