DICE today unveiled some candid concept art for Star Wars Battlefront’s Battle of Jakku, a large-scale assault which will also be featured in the upcoming film Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Battlefront’s take on Jakku is set 29 years before the events in The Force Awakens, in “the aftermath of the Rebel victory in the Battle of Endor.” The crash-landed Star Destroyer is a focal point of the scarred landscape, and pushes what Concept Artist Anton Grandert calls a “David and Goliath theme.”
“We wanted to portray a battle complete surrounding you, in every direction,” Grandert said. “Debris is falling from the sky, telling of the battles above. On the surface of the planet you can see ground troops as well as X-wings, all taking part of the fight.”
Concept art can only show so much, but it’s clear Jakku will incorporate Battlefront’s aerial warfare in a big way. The planet will join such planets as Hoth, Tatooine, Endor and newcomer Sullust in the game’s universe. The Battle of Jakku's two bonus maps are not counted in the game's 12 launch maps.
The Battle of Jakku will be a pre-order bonus. Early buyers will be able to access the battle's two maps December 1, 2015, but all others will have to wait until December 8. For additional details on purchase options, head here.
