After an initial and remarkably accurate teaser, DICE today tore the veil off Star Wars Battlefront’s new gameplay mode: Blast.
Blast pits two teams of 10 against one another in 10-minute matches. No complicated rules here: first to 100 kills, or the leading team when the timer ends, wins. Blast matches are played on custom-made, condensed maps. However, DICE insists that “these aren’t just smaller versions of maps used elsewhere.”
“Say you’ve just played Walker Assault mode on Hoth and then switched to Blast, still on Hoth,” said Lead Designer Dennis Brännvall. “Thanks to variations in lighting and time of day, you’ll definitely see a difference.”
“Immediate, addictive, and exciting until the very last kill; that is our ambition with Blast,” DICE wrote on the Battlefront blog. Blast games will still contain vehicle pickups, which are particularly valuable due to the mode’s lack of Hero/Villain play. The same goes for controlled droids and turrets given the smaller-scale battles.
Blast will be playable at launch when Star Wars Battlefront releases November 17, 2015.
