Developer DICE today released a raft of details regarding Star Wars Battlefront’s latest multiplayer mode, Supremacy.
Supremacy returns to the control point-centric play of Star Wars Battlefront 2’s Conquest mode, and sees players fight for five points throughout the map. Both teams spawn with control of two points and must then start the inevitable dog-fight over the fifth.
As you’d expect, victory goes to the first team to claim all five points, or to the team in control of the majority at the end of each 10-minute round. Control points need to be claimed in a set order, however, so actually attaining supremacy is a tricky matter. The inclusion of playable Heroes/Villains and vehicles like X-wings and TIE fighters makes things all the more dynamic.
“When you spawn into Supremacy, you don’t have to move far to see a lot of friends—and enemies,” said Lead Level Designer Dennis Bränvall. “You’re thrown into a massive frontline, where your screen is filled with adversaries: infantry, Heroes, Walkers, and starfighters. You can prepare for very heavy and focused Star Wars action.”
Rather than purely emulate, Supremacy has added to the time-honored Conquest formula. Spawn points are closer to the action to keep players near whatever point is currently being targeted. Similarly, the decision to have teams attack points in order was largely a measure to prevent “players not playing the objective and camping on a hill somewhere.”
Supremacy joins the recently revealed Blast mode, a 10v10 take on team deathmatch, and Fighter Squadron mode, which lets you take on player- and AI-controlled ships in aerial combat. DICE has also confirmed that Star Wars Battlefront will not use the Battlelog service. A wealth of information on vehicles, species and more is also out in the wild, ripe for the curious.
