Star Wars Battlefront will actually have more than 12 multiplayer maps, DICE confirms

Yesterday, it was revealed EA's upcoming shooter Star Wars Battlefront will boast 12 multiplayer maps at launch. At the time, though, it was unclear if this number already included the two additional maps — set on the new planet of Jakku (first shown in the newest Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer) — that will arrive as DLC shortly after the game's launch.

It doesn't, Star Wars Battlefront Community Manager Mathew Everett confirmed on Reddit yesterday.

"No, Battle of Jakku maps are not included in that number [12]," he clarified, adding, "We will have more details around the Battle of Jakku in the near future."

What this means is that while Star Wars Battlefront will launch with 12 maps, it won't take long for that number to grow to 14. The free Battle of Jakku DLC will become available for anyone who pre-orders the game on December 1st — about two week's after Battlefront's November 17th's release. It'll release for everyone else worldwide on December 8th, again, for free.

Confirmed planets for Star Wars Battlefront at launch include Endor, Hoth, Tatooine, and Sullest. It's unclear if these are the only four that will be available at launch, but if so, that equates to about three maps set on each planet. And, of course, we have the two additional maps on Jakku that will take place during The Battle of Jakku, set 30 years before The Force Awakens, directly after the end of Return of the Jedi.

So just to clarify, 12 maps at launch, and 14 shortly after launch. And because this is EA you can also probably count on some sort of Season Pass that'll introduce even more multiplayer maps as paid DLC.

On a side note, Everett also confirmed that the image of the TIE fighters in Sullust's sky is actually a screenshot. The one with the Magma Troopers running through the lava is concept art, however.
