As news circulated that Disney, who acquired Lucasfilm in a $4.05 billion deal, was prepping to release Star Wars Episode 7 in 2015, many wondered what exactly the new film would be about. With George Lucas taking a backseat approach to the production, serving as creative consultant, it certainly leaves room for another filmmaker to cast his mark on the franchise.
But perhaps more important than the director or cast is the plot. What is Star Wars Episode 7 going to be about? Star Wars has an abundant amount of existing official canon that already covers the years following the original film trilogy. As it turns out, none of that will be used on the new film.
According to E! Online, a Lucasfilm source said the plot of Episode 7 will be "an original story." This means that no already-existing material, like the Thrawn Trilogy, will be featured on the big screen.
So what's it about? The only man who might have a clue, Dale Pollock (author of the unauthorized biography Skywalking: The Life and Films of George Lucas), revealed to TheWrap that he was able to read the outlines of Episode 7, 8, and 9, but was forced to sign a confidentiality agreement.
"It was originally a 12-part saga," Pollock revealed. "The three most exciting stories were 7, 8 and 9. They had propulsive action, really interesting new worlds, new characters. I remember thinking, 'I want to see these 3 movies.'" He also added that an older version of Luke Skywalker appears in the final trilogy. Will it be Mark Hamill? Looks like we'll have to wait and see.
