Forest Whitaker's character has been confirmed as Saw Gerrera for 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story'.
The new Star Wars movie is still about six months away from release, but the news and rumors have been stirring since its initial trailer finally dropped back in April. Even through the series of apparent re-shoots the production had been forced to undergo considering its first round of unsatisfactory test screenings, the production seems to be pulling through. The story focuses on the rebel crew that initially infiltrated the Death Star and absconded with the plans that would lead to its destruction.
Forest Whitaker is among the a-list actors lending their talents to the project, but his actual character has been speculated upon for a while; many unclear as to what side of the battle he could be on. Entertainment Weekly has just confirmed that Whitaker will be portraying someone who has already been featured in the Star Wars mythos in the animated Cartoon Network series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars. His name is Saw Gerrera, a warrior who had once fought on the side of Anakin Skywalker before becoming Darth Vader, who will also be featured in the film.
'Rogue One' will take place over 20 years after the events in 'Revenge of the Sith', so this version of Saw has seen quite a bit. After all the loss, death, and betrayal he's faced, he has apparently chosen to live the rest of his life in isolation, never allowing himself to trust again and lashing out to those who seek his help. Forest Whitaker will be joined by Felicity Jones, Alan Tudyk, Mads Mikkelsen, and Diego Luna.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story releases December 16th!
