There's been a bunch of news about how Star Wars: Rogue One could have gone. For instance, the original draft had the movie playing for a bit longer but the pacing was off. The original draft also had a cheesy ending that was too feel-good for what the movie's tone was. But now we've also learned that originally, Darth Vader was supposed to Force Choke a main character to death.
Spoilers for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Below
I think we can all agree that the murder-hallway scene with Darth Vader at the end of the film was really awesome. But that wasn't the original ending the team had drafted. In the original, Orson Krennic, the bad guy with the big flowy cape, survived the Death Star blast on Scarif. He was beamed up to the Star Destroyer before the destruction of the planet.
But this wasn't exactly good news for Krennic, because his boss was there waiting for him.
Screenwriter Gary Whitta explains to Entertainment Weekly, “He survived the blast and they pulled him up and brought him to the Star Destroyer to report to Vader. He’s all beat up, his cape’s all torn up and stuff, and he thinks he has survived.” But in true Vader fashion, he force chokes and kills Krennic for his failure.
Not as cool as the Vader murder-fest we were given, but it does still show his cruel side, and gives us a perhaps more enjoyable end to Krennic. We don't think we'd trade the two though.
