As of Thursday night, Star Wars: The Force Awakens brought in $50 million to $55 million through opening shows, according to preliminary estimates. If the estimates are correct, The Force Awakens will beat the previous Thursday-night record held by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 for bringing in $43.5 million.
The Force Awakens will more than likely hit the estimated numbers, the movie has already broken Fandango's all-time ticket sales record. More specifically, it beat Jurassic World – which broke tons of box office records.
Jurassic World ended up grossing around $980 million worldwide in its second week of release, domestically the film grossed $400 million in the same timespan. Considering that The Force Awakens surpassed Jurassic World in Fandango ticket sales puts the film in a position to take Jurassic World's place as record holder for box office records.
“’The Force Awakens’ is a genuine cultural phenomenon,” said Fandango President Paul Yanover. “The extraordinary ticketing demand is truly unprecedented. It is Fandango’s top-selling movie of all time, even before it has even hit theater screens. It’s great to see that all fans can enjoy the ‘Star Wars’ experience, as our theater partners continue to add new screens and new showtimes every day.”
There's no doubt that The Force Awakens is going to make tons of money.
