Star Wars: The Force Awakens beat by Yo-Kai Watch Movie 2 in Japan

Sure, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been killing it in sales, the movie has broken a bunch of different box office records – but it can't be crowned the number one movie on Earth yet. It turns out that The Force Awakens has nothing on Yo-Kai Watch the Movie 2: King Enma and the 5 Stories, Nyan! in Japan.

While The Force Awakens has certainly been rolling around in plenty of cash, Japan doesn't measure success for a film in the wealth it has accrued. Instead, Japan tracks movies based on how many tickets for a film have been sold.

Based off of this, Yo-Kai Watch the Movie 2: King Enma and the 5 Stories, Nyan! has pushed The Force Awakens into th second spot on the movie totem pole. The Yo-Kai film sold 975,000 tickets on opening weekend, where The Force Awakens could only sell 800,000.

Star Wars still made more money though, Yo-Kai Watch's ticket sales were predominantly for children… Which are cheaper.
