Star Wars: The Force Awakens becomes fastest movie to hit $1 billion

The Millenium Falcon may have made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs, but Star Wars: The Force Awakens made it to the $1 billion box office mark in record-setting hyper speed as well.

The Force Awakens — the seventh installment in the core Star Wars movie saga — crossed the billion-dollar mark on Sunday, achieving the milestone in just 12 days. That's yet another Jurassic World record broken, as Universal's blockbuster dino film did it in 13 days in June.

It's worth mentioning, however, that Jurassic World had the benefit of record grosses in China, while The Force Awakens doesn't open in the world's second-largest movie market until January 9th.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been setting all sorts of records since its debut on January 17th. It brought in $238 million in North America over its opening weekend, besting previous record-setter Jurassic World. It also had the biggest worldwide debut with $529 million. Most recently, the J.J. Abrams-directed installment also posted the biggest Chrsitmas Day box office in history with $49.3 million.
