For many involved in the creation of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, I'm sure it was a magical experience. And now, director of photography Daniel Mindel has shared with us some of that magic, posting a number of photos taken from the movie's set throughout the past few weeks.
The photos, posted to Mindel's Instragram, give us an intimate and personal view into the making of the film. From the epic lightsaber duel between Adam Driver (Kylo Ren) and John Boyega (Finn), to Peter Mayhew's Chewbacca just chilling on the set, the photos give us a look into the magical filmmaking process that is Star Wars.
I can only imagine the emotion these sort of set photos will elicit when viewed years from now, the same way set photos from the original trilogy are viewed with such wonder and amazement. Granted, part of what makes set photos from the original trilogy so amazing is the fact they were innovating and pushing the boundaries of filmmaking at the time, whereas The Force Awakens just kind of goes with the sci-fi status quo. Nonetheless, it's Star Wars, and it's hard not to get all geeked out over these set photos, especially because it was a return to the use of practical effects as opposed to CGI.
Side note, I tried to search for set photos of the prequel trilogy, but it's hard when everything was made with CGI.
Check them out below and head over to Mindel's Instagram page for all the photos.
