StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm opening cinematic released in full HD glory

Blizzard has released the opening cinematic for its highly anticipated expansion, StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm. Blizzard has made quite a name for itself when it comes to delivering stunning cinematics and Heart of the Swarm is no exception.

The new trailer beautifully depicts a Zerg siege on the Terran Dominion, led by Kerrigan, the Queen of Blades. Heart of the Swarm will feature a new 20-mission campaign centering on the story of Sarah Kerrigan, free of zerg form, as she gathers the remnants of the zerg Swarm and plots her revenge against the treacherous dictator of the Koprulu sector, Arcturus Mengsk (whose statue appears to fall during the invasion).

Throughout the video you see all of StarCraft's signature units — Zerglings, Ultralists, Hydralisks, Siege Tanks, Vikings, Marines, etc. — but interestingly enough, we don't see any new units.

If you've ever played the Zerg in past games, you'll immediately recognize the accuracy in this trailer. The Zerg swarms its enemies, overrunning them with the masses. This video gives you a true sense of the Zerg's power and strength in numbers.

I know what you're thinking, "But I saved Kerrigan at the end of Wings of Liberty." Well, the very end of the trailer leaves a nice little twist that bridges the gap between the two games.

StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm will release on March 12, 2013. You can find more details about special editions here.
