StarCraft: Remastered is finally here. After rumors permeated the internet as far back as a year ago, Blizzard has finally delivered the ultimate version of what many gamers around the world consider to be the most influential RTS of all-time. And for younger gamers who may have missed the original the first time around, there has never been a better time to check out StarCraft 1 and its expansion Brood War.
That said, if you don't feel like ponying up the $15 to check out the Remaster, Blizzard has also made the original version available to anyone with a PC or Mac free to play without the burden of obnoxious microtransactions.
So if the original version is free for everyone, why bother upgrading to the Remaster? Here's a rundown of the upgrades brought to the Remaster courtesy of an official press release.
Full graphical upgrade of the original StarCraft and the StarCraft: Brood War expansion
Widescreen UHD support for up to 4K resolution
Matchmaking and leaderboards
Player profiles that track individual statistics
Cloud saving for campaign progress, hotkeys, and replays
Improved high fidelity music and sound
Ability to switch between Remastered and the original StarCraft with the click of a button
The Remaster is untouched regarding gameplay balance but comes with the expected graphical boost as well as a few modernization on how it handles matchmaking. If you're into the StarCraft multiplayer scene, you definitely won't want to miss out on StarCraft: Remastered.
