State of Decay 3 announced for Xbox Series X

All the way back at the end of Xbox 360’s life cycle, Undead Labs dropped a cult classic zombie game. State of Decay has become a pretty beloved Xbox IP with its great take on the zombie genre, emphasizing survival and stakes.

At the Xbox Games Showcase, Undead Labs debuted the first look at State of Decay 3. While they didn’t give many details, the trailer teases a mountain/winter setting. Past games had a very communal element to them but this one looks far more lonely and isolated, with only one character shown.

The female character seems stressed by all the dangers she’s up against in the wilderness and eventually encounters a zombified animal. Undead Labs confirmed that the game is only in pre-production meaning it’s pretty far off from release.

“We’re excited about the announcement that SoD3 is in early pre-production, and we’re looking forward to having more to share in the future. In the meantime, if you’re new to the franchise and want to see what it’s all about, SoD2 is on sale across all platforms until July 29th!”

There’s no other details for the game right now but it’ll launch on Xbox Series X when it releases.
