This Black Friday will be filled with plenty of Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Wii U deals, but has been a bit lackluster when it comes to reports on what PC games will be available. Fortunately, we always have the Steam Autumn and Holiday sales to see us through the year.
Reports the Steam subReddit (via Shacknews) have revealed the dates for both Steam Sales, as well as an interesting bit of information on how the sales will go down.
First off, the dates:
The Steam Sale formula is changing, gone are the days when you would have to continuously return to Steam to check on which sales were being highlighted in the Flash or Daily Sales. According to a post in the Steamworks Developer Group, both the Flash and Daily Sales will be removed from future Steam sales.
"In past sale events, we’ve asked for two discounts—a duration discount that runs for the length of the sale, and a feature discount that runs in the event that a game is featured on the front page. This year, to optimize the sale for customers and to allow us to feature and recommend your products in more ways to more customers, we’re asking for just one discount, to run the length of the sale.
We’ll still be highlighting top games on the front page for 24-48 hour spans, but those products will stay at their most competitive discount, before and after being featured. It’s not a major change, but it does make the sale a lot more valuable for customers, and it allows us to build sale tools that highlight and recommend products all sale long, instead of just during front page features."
Why is this important to know? If this proves to be true, the entire method that PC gamers used to get games at their cheapest prices throughout the duration of the Steam Sales will need to be altered. Game prices will no longer fluctuate in the sale, making the first discounted price the lowest it will be throughout the entirety of the sale.
