Steam done goofed and made a Counter-Strike gun worth $3.5 Million

In one swift move, one giant error, a Counter-Strike gun ended up costing $3,549,383.07 instead of around $35.00. This wasn't the only item effected by the error, a number of items on the community market were effected.

The error came about from the currency exchange rate encountering an error that made $1 USD worth exactly 1 Rupiah. Typically, $1 USD is worth about 13,000 Rupiah — you can see how this changes things.

The US market was 13,000 times more than the price they should have been and the Indonesian market saw record low prices for items. An item that was worth $10 USD came out to 10 Rupiah on the Community Market. In reality, the item should have been around ~129950.00.

Since the error has been resolved, Valve has issued a disclaimer on the Community Market page. They have fixed the error with the currency exchange and are working on return items and money for any items bought during the error:

The disclaimer reads as follows (tiny text be damned):

Early this morning, a problem with our currency exchange rate data allowed users who use Indonesian Rupiahs in their Steam wallet to make purchases on the Community Market at heavily discounted prices. We have reverted as many of these purchases as possible. Steam Trading and the Community Market were both disabled while this rollback process was occurring, but are now enabled once again.

A relatively small set of users have one or more transactions where the item was restored back to the seller, but the wallet funds have not yet been returned to the buyer. We are still working to resolve this issue and appreciate your patience while we sort everything out.

Users using codes to add Indonesian Rupiahs to their Steam Wallets may have noticed that the wrong amount was added. These credits will be fixed later today.
