Steam Greenlight titles now moving in small, frequent batches

Valve is now rolling out Steam Greenlight releases in bite-sized batches, starting with four new games and software titles today.

The last full update was less than a month ago. Valve approved its sixth batch of 18 titles on April 17, bringing the total close to 100. This new group is considerably smaller than the average.

"We have decided to Greenlight a smaller batch this time, so we can move more quickly," reads an update on the community. "There are lots of titles getting attention, so we are likely to continue Greenlighting titles in this quicker, but smaller batch fashion."

Valve reiterated that it bases its determinations largely on user votes as well as external factors like press reviews, crowdfunding performance, success on other platforms, awards, and more.

The new titles to undergo the Greenlight process are open-world sandbox Edge of Space; the "dystopian document thriller" Papers, Please; the action-role-playing game Venetica; and the software title Substance Designer 3, a texturing toolset.

These will go live on Steam in the coming weeks and months, according to the developers' release plans.

I'm still rooting for Mutant Mudds, which has had trouble breaking onto Steam.
