Steam no longer restoring items lost to trade scams

Steam has changed it's scam policy, and the company will no longer restore items that have been lost as a result of trading scams. The digital distribution platform has sympthized with gamers that might have fell victim to such trickery, although they remain adamant that "all trade scams can be avoided."

A recent update to Steam's scam FAQ offered the following information: "Our community assigns an item a value that is at least partially determined by that item's scarcity" the FAQ reads. "If more copies of the item are added to the economy through inventory rollbacks, the value of every other instance of that item would be reduced."

The change in policy seemingly removes a safety net for gamers; however, Steam insist that suitable advice is available to prevent scamming issues.

"We provide enough information on our website and within our trading system to help users make good trading decisions" Steam noted.
