If you haven't seen Stranger Things there are spoilers below so turn back now. First and only warning.
Ok, you had your chance.
Stranger Things is obviously inspired by so many 1980's classics that it's hard to count which one had the biggest pull for the Duffer brothers. The movie Stand by Me (my personal favorite) is immediately evident as is The Goonies. According to Entertainment Weekly, the Duffer brothers apparently are throwing homage to some actors for season 2, as they have cast three new faces. Sean Astin (Mikey from Goonies, Sam from LoTR) and Paul Reiser (Mad About You, Aliens) were cast along with a Danish actress Linnea Berthelson.
Astin will play a former highschool classmate of Hopper and Joyce while currently managing a Radio Shack. Now, I don't know about you but that sounds so cliche but I totally love it. Paul Reiser will serve as an employee of the energy department and in charge of cleaning up after the events of season 1. Basically, "Yuck, gross".
Berthelson will play the role of Roman, a “an emotionally damaged, magnetic young woman who suffered a great loss as a child. Although she does not live in Hawkins, she is mysteriously connected to the supernatural events at the lab…” Now, knowing what this sounds like, I'm going to bet that she is not connected to Eleven. Even though it sounds weird and the same, I don't think the Duffer brothers would do that out of fear of hitting the "same old thing" routine. My guess, is that the "great loss" she suffered would be a child that happens to be somewhere between 1-10, before Eleven in season one.
What do you guys think of these choices as roles? Let us know as Stranger Things season 2 will release in 2017 at a TBA date currently.
