Many fans who eagerly awaited the Street Fighter V Beta which kicked off yesterday at 6pm PT / 9pm ET were met with slight disappointment. The servers seemed to be a bit unstable, which caused them to undergo maintenance. Despite the disappointment, this is actually what these Betas are for after all.
Last night the Street Fighter Twitter account stated that the servers would be going down for maintenance, and that they'd be back up around 1AM PT. Later that same Twitter announced that the maintenance would be extended by another two hours.
Of course gamers were upset that they were losing out on Beta time, so Capcom assured that it will be extended based on how many hours were lost.
However, the game still doesn't seem to be performing correctly, as is evident by the below screenshot. This is the message we're still getting now when trying to play the game.
The PR for Street Fighter did just contact us to let us know that the maintenance is taking longer than expected.
We apologize for the ongoing issues that users have been experiencing with the SFV beta test. In order to allow us to fix the issues as quickly as possible, we are going to initiate a period of extended maintenance, during which time the beta will be unavailable to all users. We will let you know the date on which the closed beta test will re-open once all problems have been fixed. We sincerely apologize for having to bring this unfortunate news to you. Thank you for your patience. Please stay tuned for further updates.
The bolded sentence is important, since it looks like the game might be unplayable for the remainder of today. It's a bummer, sure, but like I said, these Betas are done for this exact reason. You wouldn't want something like this happening on launch day would you? We've had enough games like that already.
