Apparently, Microsoft's decision to remove the Kinect and sell the Xbox One for $100 less is paying off. During yesterday's financial earnings call, GameStop president Tony Bartel revealed that the retailer is seeing "stronger demand" in Microsoft's new console as a result of unbundling the Kinect and selling just the Xbox One for $399.
"I definitely think we're already seeing in our stores [that] there's a stronger demand as a result of the price drop," Bartel said. "The good news for us is… we'll sell a lot more units.
"And that means there will be more [Xbox One] units out there to put software on."
The Kinect-less Xbox One will begin shipping on June 9 and will be priced at $399 — the same price as Sony's PlayStation 4. The decision to remove the Kinect and offer a more competitively priced Xbox One likely comes as a result of the Xbox One's sales in comparison to the PS4. For the month of April, Microsoft sold 115,000 Xbox One units. Though the new console is well ahead of the Xbox 360 in terms of sales through the first six months on the market, the Xbox One is definitely struggling to keep up with the PS4. As April's NPD report revealed, the PS4 outsold the Xbox One for the fourth consecutive month.
