Studio Ghibli’s Princess Mononoke in 8-bit form is charming as hell

While games like Shovel Knight and Hotline Miami are busy recapturing the nostalgia and charm of the Era of the 8-bit, the guys over at CineFix are serving up that same melting pot of bygone good feelings with classic genre movies and reimagining them in the same format.

CineFix has previously released Jurassic Park and Terminator in this style, but this week they brought us Studio Ghibli’s 1997 fantasy Princess Mononoke in 8-bit form. The project essentially isolates iconic scenes from our favorite films and builds 3-4 minutes videos posing the films as platform and brawling 2D games. The effect is fantastic and will make you want to fire up the Netflix and rewatch your favorites.
