Spooky submarine simulator Barotrauma has just gotten its release date. Indie developer FakeFish and Undertow Games have shared the good news that their dark underwater co-op experience will launch this June 5th on Steam Early Access. Check out the new feature trailer!
After many years since its first reveal, Barotrauma is finally landing in the hands of players in less than a month. The deep – pun intended – underwater sim first got the attention of gamers way back in 2015 and has since been steadily worked upon by the small Finnish developers. As you can see in the trailer, Barotrauma is a submarine simulator but with a twist. Unlike the cult games in the same genre Silent Service of the 80s & early 90s, Barotrauma mixes the complicated nature of a underwater vessels and mixes it up with the horrors of the deep. Added on top is the fact that you’re not even on Earth’s scary seas but on an alien planet.
In the not too distant future, where habitable places have become scarce, humanity has arrived on Jupiter’s moon. Europa with its frozen surface is a hostile environment, and life can only be found in the dark ocean beneath the ice – and the small pockets of human habitation are not the only form of life to be found there.
If you ever played a simulator game, you’ll understand how overwhelming all the micro-management can get. Barotrauma also has an ace up its sleeves here by offering full co-op multiplayer, so that you and your friends can share the tasks (and horrors) of the dark blue ocean. A massive group of 16 players can team up and discover the secrets of Europa’s ocean.
The game is launching on June 5th on Steam Early Access. Head on over to the Steam stroepage and wishlist Barotrauma, so you get instantly notified once you can purchase it.
