Suda51’s next game has a ‘new style of online feature’

Grasshopper Manufacture CEO Goichi "Suda51" Suda has dropped the first hints on his studio's next game. It will be a new action game with unique online functionality, he told Edge.

For starters, it's an action game that will be on consoles. "We’re considering various console platforms right now,” he noted.

“We’re considering both," Suda51 said, referring to the idea of a next-gen console launch. "Naturally we are interested in developing games for the next-gen platforms. We are investigating the specs and all that right now.”

The new game doesn't even have a working title yet, but has been in development since November. It is set in the "near future." The above key art was released along with the game's tagline: "What the hell are you looking at." No More Heroes artist Yusuke Kazaki is working on the game's visuals.

“This is going to be an action game obviously but the gameplay style is going to differ very much – it’ll be unique,” Suda explained. “This is a title that GungHo Japan and Grasshopper Manufacture is working on together collaboratively so there will be an online feature, because that’s their forte and what they specialize in. On the simplest level it will be social, but the word social is used and misinterpreted a lot these days. GungHo has over ten years of experience in providing online gaming services so that is their strength.”

Suda51 offered no explanation of the multiplayer functionality, insisting, "This is a very new style of online feature, so there's no example from the past."
