Speculation is fun, and the internet is a great place to do it. Many fans have been doing just that over the upcoming Suicide Squad movie, and one of the rumors that has gone around is that Jared Leto's Joker is actually Batman's fallen sidekick, Jason Todd. Director David Ayer took a crowbar to that rumor (much like The Joker did to Jason Todd) and definitively squashed it beyond any reasonable doubt.
When asked what had been the most ridiculous rumor he had ever heard about the film, he said:
"That The Joker is Jason Todd… it ain’t the case. He’s not!"
This is, mind you, more ridiculous than the idea that the movie had to do extensive reshoots.
Suicide Squad has undergone a massive PR push recently thanks to San Diego Comic-Con. The movie got a new and exclusive trailer, an extended trailer featuring The Joker, as well as a long-awaited look at a live action version of Batman taking down The Joker and Harley Quinn, echoing shades of the beloved Animated Series.
Suicide Squad releases in theaters on August 5th, 2016.
