Warner Bros. may be planning more Suicide Squad spin-off movies pending the success of the film this fall.
Batman v Superman had a relatively successful overall gross, reeling in almost $870 million, but the reviews were anything but consistent. Despite a decent amount of positive feedback, the negative reviews seem to have rendered Warner Bros. a bit nervous when it comes to the future of the DC Cinematic Universe. Keeping that in mind, the studio has considered the so far positive overall reviews for their next project slated for release, Suicide Squad, and may have already begun planning a series of spin-offs, banking on its projected success.
It was recently announced that a spin-off of the DC femme fatale, Harley Quinn, has already been planned, but it would seem that a few other DC villains to be featured in SS might also be getting their own movies. The loudmouth aussie, Captain Boomerang, and the legendary Clown Prince of Crime, The Joker, are already being optioned for film projects to be released following the Suicide Squad sequel. A source from We Got This Covered had this to say:
“They’re going to do a sequel for sure, and the recently announced spinoff with Margot Robbie has got everyone excited, too, but their plans don’t end there. The studio is feeling very confident in the property. They think it’s going to be a really big hit and they think audiences are going to fall in love with these characters.I’ve heard more than a few talks of giving some of the other Task Force X members their own spinoffs, and like the Harley Quinn one, these films would open the door for a ton of new DC characters to show up."
