Suicide Squad’s extended cut is barely 10 minutes longer than the theatrical cut

Suicide Squad released in August to less than stellar critical reception, partially due to the fact that the film was advertised to have specific scenes that were no where to be found in the film. Many wondered what happened to these scenes, including Jared Letto who expressed his displeasure with Warner Bros. who cut a large majority of his scenes as The Joker.

Initially, Warner Bros. and director David Ayer stood by the fact that there would be NO extended edition of Suicide Squad. Two months later they announced an extended edition of Suicide Squad. Make of that what you will.

It's still pretty unclear what we will be seeing in the extended edition but many assumed it'll add a good chunk of Joker's scenes and some of Harley Quinn's background story. Turns out those people may want to rethink that. The back of the Blu-Ray cover of Suicide Squad surfaced online revealing the run time of the extended edition of the movie and it'll only be 11 minutes longer than the theatrical cut which really isn't a lot when you take into account everything that has been cut from the movie.

Just to compare, the extended cut of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was 30 minutes, and both movie's theatrical cuts are very close to the same length and it almost seems as if Suicide Squad got more cut out of it than Batman v Superman! So, what's the deal?

Did Warner Bros. see how much money they can make off of an extended edition and are maybe holding out on all the good stuff so they can release a second, longer DVD later down the line, say maybe closer to the release of the Justice League film next November? It's entirely possible, but that's just pure speculation.

Among the back of the box of the Suicide Squad DVD was also a list of special features. The list is fairly vague but it seems as if they'll delve into the backgrounds of some of these characters along with your standard special features like blooper reels.

Suicide Squad will release November 15th on digital platforms and December 13th on DVD and Blu-Ray.
