Sumo Digital to Work on New Entry of Established Karting Game

Sumo Digital has its hands turning a lot of wrenches these days. Technically an independent studio in the UK, they’re working on several projects in development at once. Along with the singleplayer campaign in Crackdown 3, Dead Island 2, and the Eve universe first-person shooter Project Nova, they’re also reportedly working on an “unannounced karting game” based on an “Established global IP”.

Originally swiped by ResetEra user Dr. Caroll, these leaked presentation slides pretty clearly point to another project being worked on. But what is it?

Well, a quick trip back to the year 2012 reveals that Sumo Digital developed the surprisingly popular Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed. Why does Sonic need a kart when he’s, as the Saturday morning cartoon theme song said, “The fastest thing alive”? Apparently, it doesn’t matter, it was a good game despite the logic.

There are a few other options for this kart racing title though. Sumo Digital also worked on LittleBigPlanet 3, a franchise that also had a racing game called LittleBigPlanet Karting.

The slide also mentions an FPS game being ported from PC to console, and another unannounced partnership with another studio to develop an original FPS from another established IP. What is Sumo Digital working on? It’s too soon to tell, but not too soon to speculate. Though, a release date for any of these projects is likely far off.
