The “Big Game” has come and gone and truthfully, I have no idea what the hell happened during the game. I was busy watching Donald Duck befriend a small child and two monsters while he gave inspirational messages to some anime kid. But what I did see was those Super Bowl TV spots for some big upcoming movies and shows.
Below you can find a round-up of all the big TV spots for Toy Story 4, Avengers: Endgame, Scary Stories To Tell in the Dark, and more. We’ll start with the heavy hitter.
Avengers: Endgame
After a pretty kickass teaser in December, Marvel wasn’t pulling any punches with this very brief yet still quite informative new TV spot for Avengers: Endgame. While the action is pretty much non-existent, it’s got lots of drama to be seen. The world feels vacant and empty, group therapy sessions are held for those who lost loved ones during the “Decimation” at the end of Infinity War, and our heroes seem fairly lost.
We get brief shots of Steve Rogers, Tony Stark and Nebula, Ant-Man, Rocket Raccoon, and more but yet again, no Thanos. Not even a brief shot of his hand or anything like the original teaser. This TV spot leaves a lot to be desired but in a good way, it’s just going to make us more anxious for the inevitable conclusion to this 10-year story.
Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th, 2019.
Toy Story 4
Did we need another Toy Story? Probably not. Are we going to welcome this one with open arms? You’re god damn right. Toy Story 4 also got a teaser trailer back in December but this is our first time seeing any footage from the actual film itself. It tells us next to nothing about the actual movie, less so than the far more secretive Avengers: Endgame, but we get to see Woody, Buzz, and the long lost Bo Peep again.
This time, the gang is in a new environment. Not a pizza place, not a psychotic neighbor’s house, not a toy collector’s apartment, not a daycare, but a carnival! Buzz Lightyear has gotten himself wrapped up in a situation where he’s up for grabs at a carnival game and two other toys (voiced by comedy duo Key and Peele) aren’t too happy about it.
You can see the brief TV spot below.
Toy Story 4 hits theaters on June 21st, 2019.
Captain Marvel
Marvel’s first female-led superhero film is just a little over a month away and while we’ve likely seen just about everything Marvel is willing to show before release, we’ve got one last TV spot for Captain Marvel. We see Carol Danvers’ slick aerial combat skills both in and out of the cockpit of a fighter jet, get a taste of her incredible resilience, and see her in one of her more iconic looks from the comics.
You can take a look at the brief spot below.
Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8th, 2019.
Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw
This one is more or less just a cutdown version of the full trailer for Hobbs and Shaw we got on Friday. Superpowered Idris Elba goes toe to toe with The Rock and Jason Statham, need we say more?!
You can see the full trailer below.
Hobbes and Shaw will release on August 2nd, 2019.
The Twilight Zone
The Twilight Zone is coming back on CBS’s All Access streaming service. The iconic horror/sci-fi anthology series that made waves back in the 1950s is returning with comedian and acclaimed horror director Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us) as the mysterious host.
While we don’t see any footage from the show itself, Peele definitely sets the stage for what’s to come when the series launches on April 1st. Take a look below.
Us
Jordan Peele’s third and final appearance during the super bowl comes from behind the camera with his new horror film, Us. The writer/director’s second directorial outing following Get Out sees a family of four haunted and hunted by an identical family with supernatural abilities and sinister intentions.
Us opens in theaters on March 22nd, 2019.
Scary Stories To Tell in the Dark
Finally, we got a look at the Guillermo del Toro-produced adaptation of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. This anthology horror book series has frightened the likes of kids and adults for years and has always had trouble making its way to the screen but it’s finally happening and well, it looks to give off the same feeling as the books.
Instead of just one ad, we got four showcasing some of the most fearsome stories from the acclaimed book series. Take a look below, beware they’re really not for the squeamish.
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark will release on August 9th, 2019.
