Super Mario Bros. amiibo launching alongside Mario Party 10

Nintendo has announced that a new Super Mario series of amiibo, its line of interactive figures, will launch on March 20, 2015. The special line will launch alongside the release of Mario Party 10, and will include the following characters: Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Bowser, and for the first time, Toad.

The new amiibo will be used in a third mode, revealed today, called Amiibo Party. In this mode, you can touch your amiibo to use it as a special game piece on a special board related to that character. For instance, in the Mario-themed board, you might encounter an event where you encounter a mushroom to suddenly grow. In the Luigi board, you might have to suck up your rivals' stars and coins using the poltergust. Each character has a special trait, and you can also select one token to assign to your amiibo to use while playing.

Mario Party 10 will work with 9 different amiibo: Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, Yoshi, Bowser, Rosalina & Luna, Donky Kong, and Wario. You'll notice that some of these characters appeared in Super Smash Bros. Regardless of which version you buy, they'll all function the same way. However, if you decide to use your Super Smash Bros. amiibo in Mario Party 10, you'll need to first erase the other data assigned to that amiibo.

These new amiibo will be available alongside Mario Party 10 for the Wii U on March 20, 2015.
