Super Mario Maker 2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 coming this summer

Nintendo has been a bit quiet since releasing Super Smash Brothers Ultimate but today, they began talking about what 2019 has to offer with a Nintendo Direct. To kick things off, Nintendo announced a sequel to one of the most beloved Wii U games: Super Mario Maker.

Super Mario Maker 2 will release this summer on Nintendo Switch with new features, Mario-based assets, and more. Details are ultimately scarce right now but it’s quite possible we’ll hear more about it in a Direct closer to launch. “In this new game, a sequel to the original Wii U™ game, players can create the Super Mario courses of their dreams, with access to even more tools, items, and features, including the new ability to create slopes for the first time. Super Mario Maker 2 launches exclusively for Nintendo Switch this June,” reads the official description from Nintendo.

Eagle-eyed viewers did spot assets from Super Mario 3D World and other acclaimed titles from the Italian plumber. Super Mario Maker 2 will hit sometime in June.

Nintendo followed this announcement up with an update on one of the games they announced at The Game Awards. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 got a new trailer that revealed it will be coming this summer exclusively on Nintendo Switch. On top of that, we learned that the game will include four-player co-op through both online and local play.

“MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE 3: The Black Order: For the first time in 10 years, the MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE series returns with four-player action and an original story … all exclusive to Nintendo Switch! Assemble your dream team from a huge cast of Super Heroes, including Marvel’s ultimate cosmic protector, Captain Marvel.”

Players can save the world together with up to four players** in TV mode, with four separate systems locally or online. A dynamic zoomed-in Heroic Camera will give players the option to get closer to the action. As characters level up, they’ll learn new skills they can use on the fly, and also perform powerful Alliance Extreme attacks,” reads the official description.
